The Honolulu International
Airport leads the way for domestic airports
by offering Hot Spot Service (Wireless Internet
Wi-Fi) at all of its departure gates and main
concourse. A first of its kind in Hawaii, a Wide Area
Wi-Fi Contiguous Network, allows users to access the
internet with laptop computers and PDA’s. The newly
installed Wi-Fi system, designed and installed by Pacific
Wireless Communications, is an extensive wireless network
integrated with 31 Tropos Wi-Fi Cells and 16 Motorola
Canopy backhaul units. The system provides Wi-Fi coverage
at all departure gates and the main concourse. The Wi-Fi
system is capable of a variety of applications by travelers,
airport administration and operations, airlines and rental
car companies.
Honolulu, Hawaii
The State of Hawaii Department of Transportation
will equip 120 Oahu Highways Division vehicles with Automatic
Vehicular Location (AVL) devices. The contract
includes an island-wide 800 MHz conventional radio system
using six mountaintop radio sites. The Pacific Wireless
Communications AVL system is a sophisticated computer-based
vehicle tracking system that will assist the Oahu Highways
supervisors in dispatching the closest vehicles to provide
faster service. The PWC Fleet Management system is a turnkey
solution, with a Geographic Information System (GIS) based
central computer and integrated wireless mobile units.
The system uses Motorola’s Quantar & GTX radios
with CES AVL hardware and software. The GIS based computer
central is capable of controlling the fleet, displaying
fleet wide and per-unit information, and optional message
dispatching. This PWC turnkey system solution includes
system engineering, project management, installation, service
and training. The system is completely modular and depending
upon customer requirements can be integrated as required.

Honolulu, Hawaii
The City and County of Honolulu Fire
Department will equip 54 Fire vehicles with Trimble's AVL
products. PWC will serve as a subcontractor to TriTech
Software Systems, the prime contractor and Computer Aided
Dispatch (CAD) system vendor, to incorporate GPS/AVL into
Honolulu's Fire Alarm dispatch operations. The Fire AVL
subsystem will join the already operational EMS AVL system
that was installed and is serviced under contract by PWC.
The addition of Fire Vehicles to the EMS AVL system adds
the capability to improve response time by 5 minutes to
heart attack victims. Fire and EMS dispatchers will be
able to dispatch the closest Fire/EMS team to the scene.

Robin McCulloch, chief of Honolulu's Emergency Medical
Services Division. "When seconds count, second best
doesn't."
Hilo, Hawaii
The County of Hawaii will
replace its legacy analog 2 GHz microwave system with a new
$10 million digital wireless network which supports its Police,
Fire, Ambulance, and Civil Defense departments. This three-year
effort will significantly upgrade the island's 30-year-old
analog system to a state-of-the-art digital communication
network. Included in this contract is a multiyear comprehensive
maintenance and monitoring program with 24x7, 365 days per
year emergency response services. PWC will serve as a subcontractor
to Scientel America providing installation and 24x7 maintenance
services.
